Meditation is Good for Everyone
The Portland FBI asked me to teach meditation techniques to their employees for Staff Appreciation Day. I can only imagine working at the FBI must sometimes be, shall we say, stressful? These are people who make it their business to identify and confront daily threats to security to keep the rest of us safe. They routinely and willingly put themselves in harm’s way. It was an honor to have the opportunity to share a few meditation strategies with these hard-working people.

Our first focus was to lay down and find our belly breath.
Meditation from the Martial Arts Perspective
Meditation is an age-old custom passed down to me throughout my 30+ years training a traditional martial art from Indonesia. Poekoelan Tjimindie is a holistic art. What I mean by that is, it’s not just about kicking, hitting, self-defense, weapons, and fighting, though it’s definitely all that. There is also a spiritual aspect, and meditation practice is integral to our development.
As we advance through the ranks, our tests become ever longer. By black belt and through the multiple degrees of black belt, tests are many days long, with extended periods set aside for meditation. Purposefully and steadfastly, a practitioner builds focus, concentration, awareness, presence, and peace of mind. These skills continue to mature and synthesize into our daily lives lending meaning to one of the slogans of our art: Compassionate Balanced Action.
Back at the FBI
Back at the FBI in the big conference room, participants found comfortable places all around on the floor, took deep breaths and settled in. The lights dimmed and voices became hushed, then still. Off we flowed together into the land of mindfulness and calm.
Why Should a Business Offer Meditation Training to their Employees?
There are so many reasons for you to offer a meditation workshop for your staff. Aside from all the goodness we know meditation can provide, your employees benefit from learning new skills together, as a team. In the current competitive market, proactive employers are bumping up their retention and benefits offerings. What better way to show that health and wellness is a company value than by giving your team training we know helps reduce anxiety, increases blood flow to the brain and boosts the immune system?
When You are Ready
Along with self-defense, meditation and de-escalation workshops, we provide active shooter survival training as well. When your company or organization is ready, fill out a contact form and let’s talk about what you and your team really need. Let us design a workshop or series of workshops just for you. It’s easy, it’s important, it’s empowering and we will make it work for you!

Sounds fabulous!! I’m well into my retirement years, but each of the not- for-profit agencies I worked for would have benefited from these trainings!! Power to you Silvia, your team & your Center!!
